What distinguishes the Mariner's Fishing Rod from a Fishing Rod?

With The Great Expedition event, a new Fishing Rod was added to the game: the Mariner's Fishing Rod.

Its description says: This legendary fishing rod is said to have caught a giant creature from the darkest of depths once, strong enough to even reel the ancient being in.

I would like to know what differentiates the Mariner's Fishing Rod from a regular Fishing Rod. Is it easier to catch fish using it? Or is it actually possible to catch something other than the common fish?

I got it today and tested it, but all I caught were 200 regular Fish. I will try again later.

I am not sure whether the description refers specifically to the Great Expedition or to another area where the item can be used.

Until now, it looks like a normal fishing rod, I didn't see any difference yet.

Yeah, I tried fishing in Thais and then in the Great Expedition area, but neither location gave me any different type of fish.

I have a theory that there may be specific places where it can catch something different, or perhaps this feature is reserved for another stage of the event itself.

For example, maybe once we set sail on the expedition, or once a new area is unlocked after the event progresses, there will be a place where the fishing rod can catch something special. I don't know yet.

According to CM Mirade:

You may be hooked on the description but there's nothing to catch there, it's just flavour.  The rod doesn't have a special or new function.

 So, that's it—the Mariner's Fishing Rod doesn't have any unique features.
