I would like to expand FPoPP’s answer a bit (which is very good nevertheless) and add some examples from my personal experience. I ran Tibiabosses Rare’s Pricecheck for 3 years already and have over 10 years of experience in trading/investing in Tibia.  Investing in RaresInvesting in rares can be a good way to get high amounts of money. However, I would recommend to analyse them thoroughly before taking any decisions: <ul><li>Why is the item rarity? What is the history of the item? Can it be possibly obtained in the upcoming future?</li></ul>Historical items like Rose shield, Magic Longsword, Shield of honour, Broken amulet, and some items given by fansites during contests (yellow rose and grey tome) are highly unlikely to be dropped by any creature in the future. They have long, solid history and are valued by collectors and traders. On the other hand, investing in items like fabulous legs, which may seem rare only for a short amount of time after the implementation to the game is not recommended.<ul><li>Why is it expensive? Is it just a decoration or does it have some practical use?</li></ul> Dragon scale boots are a good example here. At some point their price skyrocketed from about 15kk to even 100kk as they become generally quite useful with their additional fire protection and the fact that they are equipped on boots slot. + only one boss drops them  <hr>Some items which are not any rare or even nearly worthless can become a rare due to some special circumstances, developer’s decision etc.Let me give you a few examples:<ul><li> broken amulet – when amulets of life turned into them in 2003 you were able to sell this item for 50k to  NPC Eremo. Investing in rares can be a good way to get high amounts of money. However, I would recommend to analyse them thoroughly before taking any decisions:

Why is the item rare? What is the history of the item? Can it be possibly obtainable in the upcoming future?

Historical items like Rose shield, Magic Longsword, Shield of honour, Broken amulet, and some items given by fansites during contests (yellow rose and grey tome) are highly unlikely to be dropped by any creature in the future. They have long, solid history and are valued by collectors and traders. On the other hand, investing in items like fabulous legs which may seem rare only for a short amount of time after the implementation to the game is not recommended.

b) Why is it expensive? Is it just a decoration or does it have some practical use?

Dragon scale boots are a good example here. At some point their price skyrocketed from about 15kk to even 100kk as they become generally quite useful with their additional fire protection and the fact that they are equipped on boots slot.
+ only one boss drops them

Some items which are not any rare or even nearly worthless can become a rare due to some special circumstances, developer’s decision etc.

Let me give you a few examples:

broken amulet – when amulets of life turned into them in 2003 you were able to sell this item for 50k to NPC Eremo. Most players just sold them to NPC and over the course of the years we can observe that it wasn’t a good decision.

The price of the amulet raised to about 1kk in 2005 and then raised significantly to reach 200kk and over in 2020. This is one of the best possible examples of good investment items.

It would be possible to present many more examples, like Golden Helmet which price increased from about 20kk (about a dozen years ago) to 1kkk (1 billion gp) in 2020.

key 4600 – available on Rookgaard, sold by and NPC for 5gp. Nowadays unobtainable and even though people have even some backpacks of them (I have about 8 keys myself) they sell for 1kk or even more. Keep in mind that the demand is low and it’s hard to find a serious buyer.

wooden sword – it was available on Tutorial Island for free and possibly thousands of them lay in the depots of players. But it’s unobtainable now, so the price on Antica reached 500k-1kk.

stone of wisdom – they were replaced by stones of insight and they were available for everyone who participated in Rise of Devovorga World Quest. Their price (when they were available) usually never reached more than 500k. Quickly after developers announced that this item won’t be available anymore I bought about 10 of them and later sold for 2-3.5kk each.

royal helmets imbued with powerful epiphany (mlvl +4) – these were available for all vocations and could give interesting boost for knights and paladins who couldn’t get such high mlvl bonus (except Jean Pierre’s dish). People who imbued significant amounts of them (and there were quite a few) can now sell each helmet for even 10kk.

We cannot really predict which item will become unobtainable, but it’s generally good to have some unusual items and a bit of everything in your depot. Who knows, you may find yourself a millionaire in the future with a really low effort.

Personal hint - I have bought and obtained some oracle figurines. They already are not so easy to get and I have a suspicion that they may become unobtainable in some years.

Market

I had an investment project on Antica a few years ago. The goal was to buy an expensive and unobtainable (only available via trading) item. I started with a piggy bank which I get from Santa and after 2 years ended with 65kk for which I bought a Shield of Honour.
First I invested in very cheap items like chicken feathers, minotaur leathers (addon item – high demand) and such, then slowly moved to higher tiers. At the end I mostly traded high-end equipment pieces – for example ornate chestplates, where I was able to get even 2kk profit on one transaction.

I planned to resell the shield at some point as it appeared to be a good investition. I finally decided to never sell it, but the price nowadays is about 165kk on Antica which means 100kk price increase in 4 years.

If you plan to get big amounts of money through investments, it is crucial to understand the demand and supply terms.
High demand - best or very good equipment items which lots of people want to get OR very beautiful sprite of a decoration item
and
Low supply - rarity of the item determines its amount of the market

These two factors determines the final price of the item and should help you to make a decision whether to invest or not. Of course you have to be very careful as inflation, making items dropable, adding new items and other unpredicatble circumstances may ruin even a good plan.
