Do I need to kill Urmahlullu boss to complete second mission of kilmaresh quest?

In the second mission of killmaresh quest it says I need to find a ring of secret thoughts and I see this rings everywhere in adventurer’s guild floor almost everyday so I just start thinking do I actually need to kill the Urmahlullu or just deliver the ring to NPC?

You do NOT have to kill Urmahlullu to continue the quest. 

You do not actually have to defeat Urmahlullu to be able to complete the mission. If you happen to obtain the ring by other means, you can just turn it in and move on with the quest.
