could someone explain to me how the Shapeshifter Ring mechanism works? how to achieve it and its usefulness.

When equipping this ring, it will turn you into one of the event monsters (Carniphila, Quara Hydromancer, Lost Soul, Blightwalker, Mutated Rat, Zombie, Nightstalker and Pharaoh). Its effects will last for another 60 minutes after being taken off. The ring last for 600 minutes (i.e. 10 hours). This ring will only work if your world succeeded in the Last Creep Standing world task.
