Is there any reason behind of not being able to use the 'Pointed rabbitslayer' as any other weapon?

I've just noticed that it's not possible to use a pointed rabbitslayer as any other weapon does (swords, clubs or axes) in order to break an item or anything like that. Is there any solid reason for this?

That item looks like a carrot. The devs could've just copied and pasted the carrot's parameters and made a few changes such as removing the possibility of eating it and adding attack and defense values.
