Before we enter the boss room for Lord Retro we're greeted by NPC Mud. Can you please tell me the history of NPC Mud? I know the meaning behind the name is "MUD: You arrived in Tibia! The Multi-User Dungeon (c) 1997 CipSoft GmbH ..." But what is the story? I know I've heard this before :)

Hey, Shawtay! I need to reserach a little bit in order to try answering this. Couldn't find anything relating to NPC Mud per si, but found about the references.

As you may know, Tibia was created as a college project by the 4 GOD's and it was meant to be a multi-user dungeon RPG game (therefore M.U.D.)

The evolution to an MMO was developed with the growing popularity of the internet.

After looking for a while, I found this link explaining in details what exactly is a M.U.D., but, in resume:

1) Is a multi-user virtual world described entirely in text;

2) combines elements of role-playing gameshack and slashinteractive fiction, and online chat;

3) were a precursor of the MMORPG's;

4) they were not necessarily games, being used for purposes such as distance education or virtual conferences.

Hope this could help you <3

I assume the NPC MUD is related to Tibia being inspired by MUD type games and the concept being a "Graphical MUD". You can see Stephan's comment relating to Tibia and MUD at the following link:
https://game-news24.com/2022/01/15/the-game-archaeologist-talking-to-25-year-old-tibia-with-cipsoft-the-game-archaeologist/

"Tibia has been online since the 7th of January 1997. It’s thus one of the first MMORPGs. This time, the so-called Multi User Dungeons, were online game-playing games, so we wanted to do it with graphics. That’s why the concept of the game was GMUD or Graphical MUD."
