Is there a particular mechanic associated with the 'haunted hunter' creature?

In the Outer Crypt spawn, it seems this creature is capable of extremely high burst damage but is it caused by some kind of a mechanic? Is it possible to avoid or reduce the frequency of this damage or is it tied to the summoned bone bears?
