Are there two Mad Mages in Tibia or are they the same person?

I'm just curious as if the Mad Mage and the Prisoner are the same person or are they 2 completely different people? I know one you can kill and one is considered a NPC but I'm just stumped. Any ideas?

The prisoner is also known as the Mad Mage. Before becoming a prisoner he lived elsewhere in the cave system in the so-called Mad Mage Room.

This question blew my mind, I had no idea the possible connection existed. I am going to research it over the weekend and add anything I find here :)

There are no additional hints about that but perhaps it can be considered as a clue while trying to complete the Opticording Spheres Quest, which is still quite mysterious.
