Hi Requ,

I have hunted these lost souls for 400 levels and specifically in Venore for approximately 200 levels. (500-700, which is my current level) I'm in no way The expert compared to others who have hunted there for countless more hours. At your level range, you won't probably exhaust the whole cave, but we will need to go the floor -2. Still, it is a big hunting ground so there will be other preferred routes from other players. I'm only sharing what I like to do and what I found that gets me the best result.

1 - Some preliminary.

I like to use Low blow instead of dodge on Flimsies Lost Souls. More damage, more experience. Besides, dead creatures don't hit ;) Divine wrath on Mean Lost souls and you are ready to go.

I imbue my wand with Powerful Strike and Powerful Epiphany. I much prefer the extra +4 ML than saving gold on potions.

When hunting as mages, we never box ourselves with 8 creatures. At least, not on purpose :p So this means that creatures will die all around the place, making the looting extremely cumbersome and will decrease drastically your experience gain per hour. So if you want the best xp/hour rate, you should consider ignoring loot completely. Just for illustration purposes, in the route that I do (which I will explain in a moment) the raw xp/hour rate is 6.4~6.5kk and 7.1~7.2kk between picking up and ignoring loot, respectively.

Anyway, enough of this, let's get to the route.

2 - The Route.

For reference, check this image here. We are staying basically in the western side of the map. I find navigation there easier, and only go to eastern sides in case of over killing the hunting ground.

We start at  and we do a small lap around the central bush. To boost xp/hour, you must kill creatures in a way that the will die at roughly the same time, so timing your UE is essential.

We run north towards pool number  where things start to get better, I run clockwise, using runes until they are low enough so that I can UE and leave.

From there, I go -2 and ignore the creatures near the hole to -2. They will be killed after we comeback from the second floor. I gather creatures near the rope spot, go left and north. Usually this spot is crowded and there is a high chance of getting trapped, thus I usually trap myself inside the wall, where only 3 creatures can hit me. One important thing to do here is to spam summon. Get some Demon Skeletons, Orc leaders, etc. to keep the creatures around and when it is time to UE, they all will be hit.

After the pool dies, I go south towards the middle of the map. Instead of already doing laps here, I lure 4-6 creatures from the south part and come back up to kill everything there.

Now I head south and then west. On this arm, I like to slowly walk and use GFB until I get to 5 where I usually stop and UE. This helps me to not lose some many creatures and keep the xp/hour high.

The pull on is a bit tricky, it only exists here because it is the only that I found to open the way to 7 without getting trapped while still mantaining the same xp/hour. We go slightly north towards 7, and lure 3-4 creatures, there is no need to go further than the small rock on the right. Then, we head east, killing creatures as we walk slowly. When creatures are around low yellow HP we turn around, finishing them off on the way to 7, where we kill whatever is in there on our way out of -2 and back to -1.

Once out of -2, we go south, directly, to the biggest and most rewarding pull of the respawn. There will be a huge number of flimsies there, nuke them as much as possible while running around, UE, south again to lure the remaining creatures and make kill them while making your way back to the entrance, where it all begins again :)

3 - Final comments

As I said, this is what I like to do, and certainly there are other great routes to take there, many that will do just as good or even better.

For reference, I use full set (primal + soulwar set) but still use a garlic necklace. At level 750 I will try to change to theurgic amulets.

If you do decide to loot, then let me suggest only picking it up in the next lap instead of doing it immediately.

I highly recommend using an experience Prey on the Flimsy Lost soul. It will increase your xp/hour by A LOT.

Anyway, this my 2 cents, I hope this helps!! If you have any questions, I will be around.
