Are the statues of Medusa Tower a faithful representation of the race that used to inhabit it?

When we hunt in the medusa tower we find a lot of statues, and I haven't seen any text on most of them, so I tend to think they are real remains of a fight between a race and medusa for the control of the tower, anyway here is the issue, in tibia we don't have too many sprite statues, and here we find a lot of human shaped statues along with other statues (lizards, gargoyles, heroic statues) in places where there shouldn't be any known humans, in this case we have: pirates, wizards, dwarves and warriors, this makes me wonder:

What are those statues?

Are they humans petrified by medusa?

If so, why so many and what do the pirates there represent?

If they are not human, what are they?

If they are not a petrified race, what are those human-shaped statues doing in that tower?

Is this story somehow related to the nightmare knights?
