What is the origin of Adventurers around Venore?

Question

Few years ago I noticed a spawn of Adventurers, easy and slow enemy. What is goal of these spawns are they apart of any quest? When were they added?

They was added in December 12, 2012 during winter update 2012 and they are part of Goblin Merchant Quest,  specifically "Guardian Angel - Kind Of" where u need use special item Guardcatcher on them until you "shoot into knee" three of them.
