During the event Lightbearer, can I exchange my midnight shards after my world fail?

Hello people! 

As most of us know, during the event Lightbearer we can exchange up to 40 midnight shards with Npc Lucius and receive some XP for it, my question is, can we exchange the midnight shards any time during the four days of the event or if my world fail I won't be able to exchange it?

No you can’t exchange shards if the world fail, you can exchange the shards during the event while the flames are burning if the flames stop burning you will fail and won’t have Lucius reward
