At what distance you need to be for a creature that is not appearing in your screen start attack you?

Many times some creatures that isn't appearing in my screen start to attack me, so how far I need to be to the creature start to attack?

It actually depends on the creature. I noticed that most of the low tier monsters take some time to even "notice you", while for instance, the Dark Torturer can shot his knife being basically not visible on the screen anymore.

Yes, I do want to second this it depends on the creature. I tried to test this out on Amazons, Glooths, Quaras, everywhere where I hunt but I honestly cannot pin point the exact sq. All I know is it depends on the creature.
