How do you get status/backpack/hunting/battle windows on both sides of the game graphics window?

Question

I've seen many YT videos where players have their backpack/ status etc windows on the left hand side of the main game graphic window. When I try to drag a window to the left hand side, it doesn't stay there. Can anyone tell me how they manage to have windows on the left hand side?

Any help much appreciated

If you look between the minimap and my mana bar and the left side of my life bar on this screenshot, you'll see these < and >, you just need to click there and the new space to place your backpack/skills/analyser windows will appear.
