Do you need to have the Lion Ring equipped every time you want to access the second floor of the Lion Sanctum?

I want to access the second floor of the Lion Sanctum and am wondering if the  Lion Ring is needed every time I want to use the Lion Column in order to teleport to the second floor.

No, you only need this ring during the questline, after you finish the whole quest you can use Lion Column without the ring.
