Can I be banned for using an Xbox controller to play the game? There's a way to play with the Xbox controller but I don't know if that's allowed

Hi!

It is legal to use a gaming mouse or a controller as long as you only assign one hotkey per button as is mentioned here:

5e) Is it allowed to use the extra buttons on a gaming mouse/keyboard as hotkeys?

Yes, you can generally use the buttons of your gaming mouse or keyboard like hotkeys. However, please note that you may not bind more than one action to a button. For instance, it is acceptable to bind to a button the drinking of a mana potion. However, it would be illegal to assign to a button the drinking of a mana potion and then casting "exura". Thereby, it does not matter if the action is performed by pressing a combination of keys (e.g. CTRL+F1) or a single key (e.g. F1).

Also, when reading the tibia rules in the Cheating part, they only mention unofficial software:

Using additional software to play the game:
Keep in mind that you are supposed to play the game yourself, not to have a tool or program play it for you. Doing so gives you an unfair advantage over players who invest time and effort to gain power. Using unofficial software such as a macro program or a so-called "tasker" or "bot" to automatically execute actions in Tibia for you may lead to a punishment. Thus, play fair.

It is important to note that they do not mention specifically an Xbox Controller, but nowadays there is not much difference between the functions that you could perform with a high-end gaming mouse and a console controller.

Hope this was of help!

This answer is correct and confirmed in a support Ticket#20211228420013-"Using controllers to play Tibia would not be a violation of the Tibia Rules as long as you make sure to map single actions to individual buttons. If you mapped a whole sequence of actions to a single button, however, we would consider that a macro that provides an unfair advantage and reserve the right to punish your account accordingly."

Hello, Grelina!

Although it is not necessarily illegal, any use of external software can be detected by battleye as a macro.

This said, usually CipSoft does not ban someone for using macros like those, unless the community express they are bothered by macro players.

If you are willing to take those risks, it is ok to use, but it may cause some problems in the future because of that (later I can attach here a link on the website about this issue)

I'd love to see the source of this information. Also, a controller is a hardware, not software.

Tibia-rules

Code of conduct that all players are expected to follow. Violating or attempting to violate the Tibia Rules may lead to a temporary suspension of characters and accounts. In severe cases the removal or modification of character skills, attributes and belongings, as well as the permanent removal of characters and accounts without any compensation may be considered.
