What are Thorn Seeds for?

They're a rare drop from The Enraged Thorn Knight. Wondering if there's any use to them. They can be used with something, they can be sell on the market just not on NPC's. So, is there any lore, mystery or use behind this item? I've used it on different types of ground, on empty pots, on filled pots, and nothing seems to work.
