Does boss bonus works on The Welter?

A friend stated that it might not be working correctly, because the message after kill states that "following items are available at reward chest" but never mentions that it's from The Welter itself. Had killed boss 4 times and never managed to get boss bonus, and now I've wasted like 1kk to reassign slot after finding him, if someone knows anything please let me know, so I won't have to bother with wasting cash the next time.
