After a character name change, does the previous name stay on their profile forever or does it disappear after a while?

Your previous character name will show up as a "former name" on the character page for 6 months. The old name can also be used for the same time to recover the account in the Lost Account Interface or to search the character in the Characters section.

An exception to this is when the character name gets locked due to being offensive. In that case it will not show up on the character page as a former name.

But after 6 months, if I look for the former name at Tibia official website, it will return to me that the "character does not exist"?

Yes, that's right. That does however not mean that the name is available as it can still be unavailable even if it doesn't show up on the character page.
